Supporting BC Leaders in Lung Research

For more than 100 years, the BC Lung Association has been working to save lives by promoting lung health and preventing lung disease.

It all began with a historic campaign to stamp out tuberculosis.

A century later, we continue our fight to end lung disease, targeting new and evolving threats to lung health, and serving as a guardian of British Columbian’s right to healthy air.

To this end, every year we grant close to a million dollars in support of vital lung health research.

This year we are proud to announce five additional grant commitments totaling a million dollars to BC respiratory health leaders, including the UBC Respiratory Division & Lung Centre, the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Canadian Respiratory Research Network.

We are enormously grateful to our donors whose support makes these donations possible.

 Lung facts:

  • Lung attacks the #1 reason for adult hospital emergency admissions.
  • Lung disease is the only leading cause of death still on the rise.
  • 1 in every 5 British Columbians suffers from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, sleep apnea, or another lung ailment.
  • More people will die this year from lung cancer than any other type of cancer, including breast, prostate and colon cancer combined.

Hope some of this can go to study nieubourhood Wood Smoke and how badly it is harming many of us in BC. Burn smart doesn’t work too many are being smoked out. EPA approved wood stoves produce far to many toxins & pm 2.5 to be used in residental areas.
