FOCUS. BREATHE. PLAY HARD. – A Learning Opportunity and Experience!

We are 4th year nursing students from the University of Saskatchewan who began a community health rotation at The Lung Association in September.  From the first day we were welcomed with open arms and their inter-professional staff provided us with multiple learning opportunities. Our main project was the Focus. Breathe. Play Hard. Lung Health Challenge  which was done in partnership with The Saskatoon Blades and The Regina Pats.  We were busy and worked like Santa’s Little Elves for the past three months to complete our assignments. Our days at The Lung Association were filled with emails, drafting, editing, finalizing, organizing,

Working together for healthy communities

The BC Lung Association’s RadonAware team will be attending the Union of BC Municipalities 2015 Annual Convention on September 23rd and 24th in Vancouver. With a focus on promoting healthy communities throughout BC, the RadonAware team will share information and resources about radon, a known lung cancer risk, aiming to inspire cities throughout BC to get involved and encourage radon testing and mitigation. Collaboration is fundamental to all successful partnerships, and in January 2014, the City of Castlegar partnered with the BC Lung Association’s RadonAware team to educate residents about the health risks of radon and encourage radon testing and

Friends & Family Unite to Fight Lung Disease!

The BC Lung Association’s 29th Annual Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath united some 300 cycling enthusiasts and event volunteers from across British Columbia this past weekend, September 7 and 8th, to raise funds for vital lung health research, programs and initiatives. The 2-day, 200km ride from White Rock to Cultus Lake and back was everything a Bike Trek should be: beautiful, challenging and in the end, very rewarding. Cyclists shared laughs, forged friendships and reached personal goals—while riding for a cause they believe in. To participate, cyclists raised a minimum donation of $500 and in return, traveled a fully

20 storeys of victory over lung diseases

The morning of March 10 was a special day at the Coast Edmonton Plaza as more than 150 participants climbed 20 storeys of the hotel in support of The Lung Association, AB & NWT. Edmonton’s first ever Boardwalk Rental Communities StairClimb for Clean Air was a success. One of the highlights of the event was the heartfelt speech by Morris Irvine, a double lung transplant survivor. The resident of Lindbergh waited nine months on a transplant list. He received his new lungs on March 13, 2011 at the University of Alberta Hospital, where he spent four days in intensive care

Climb the Wall – Stairclimb for Clean Air 2013

Climbing to the top: Participants’ lungs and legs hurt just thinking about it, but despite any pre-event jitters,400 participants turned up in support of the BC Lung Association’s Climb the Wall: the Stairclimb for Clean Air this past Sunday in downtown Vancouver.  It’s not a traditional road race or even a triathlon; it’s a stairclimb to the top of one of BC’s tallest buildings, the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre Hotel. While the event attracts competitive stair climbers out to set personal bests, as well as a large contingent of BC firefighters who come out every year, an equal number of
